KILKEEL RIDING CLUB
Armagh Riding Club was invited to take part in an interclub competition
ran by Kilkeel Riding Club on Saturaday 18 September. Despite the bad weather Emma Lavery, Pheobe Lavery , Lisa McKenna and
Alison Crozier all travelled to Warrenpoint to represent Armagh. All four girls jumped brillantly with Emma taking 4th place
in the Pony Open on Sparticus and Lisa McKenna taking 2nd in Horse Intermediate riding Sportsman. Pheobe and Alison put on
great performances but were just unlucky to make the final placing, but well done to all four!
Team Qualifier Success On
Wednesday 14th July, 16 members representing Armagh Riding Club travelled to the Meadows Equestrian Centre to take part in
the Team Qualifiers for National Balmoral, run by Downshire Riding Club. 14 teams were entered in total with 4 being from
Armagh to try and gain the 6 qualifying places. Armagh Red was made up of Orla O’Hagan riding Tiernan, Joanne
Rickard riding Johnny Be Good, Emma Lavery on Spartacus and Tristan Hutton on Trigger. Armagh Blue was made up of Julie-ann
Garvey on Willie, Miriam Burney on Ross, Zara Jomar on Amber and Telisha Hutton riding Guinness. Armagh Green was made up
of Joan Kiernan on Jacko, Shannon Hall on Little Horse Man, James McGurgan on Hugo and Lisa McKenna on Sportsman. Armagh Yellow
was made up of Shannon Wright on Robe Dream, Cormac McGleenan on Ruby, Matthew Wright on Tynan Dancer and Ciaran McGurgan
on Nico. All four teams jumped incredibly well with both Armagh Green and Yellow finishing on a score of 0 faults after the
first round and therefore progressed to the jump off, however Armagh Red and Blue were simply very unlucky to miss the jump
off as they both finished on just 4 faults. 9 teams took on the jump off where all the tight twists and turns were needed
if a qualifying place was to be theirs. Shannon Wright put in a very speedy clear while Lisa McKenna riding Sportsman got
the turns getting a time of 30.12secs to take the third quickest time in the round. Both teams gave it there all, which seen
Armagh Green receive a qualifying place so massive congratulations to them but also well done to the three other teams who
all rode superb and represented the club at a very high standard. Big thanks also to all the vocal squad of spectators who
came down to cheer on their club and Good luck to Joan, Shannon, James and Lisa for the final on Monday 19th July after lunch.
All members are welcome to go down and cheer on their club at Balmoral if they wish

Team Success at Newry Show
Saturday 26th June saw a seven members representing Armagh Riding Club travel
to Bessbrook to compete in the Jump Cross Classes run by Warrenpoint Riding Club. The first class was the 60cms which saw
Nadine McKenna riding Tricky Vicky, Katie Crozier riding Apache Puzzle, Aimee McKenna on Super-Splash, Paul Lynch on Bella
and Aislyn Lynch on Ginger take on the long and spooky course. Clears were hard to come by but all five rode brilliantly resulting
in Aislyn taking third place after the jump off so very well done to her. The next class was the 80cms, which was also taking
team entries. It was decided very quickly to have a go at the team event. The team was made up of Lisa McKenna riding Patchmills
Sportsman, Aimee McKenna riding Super-Splash and Alison Crozier riding Tynan Wonder. As there were only the three girls willing
to take it on, they were already at a disadvantage before they started as the other teams consisted of 4 riders, but this
didn’t bother them. All three put in great performances, which saw Lisa take 3rd in the individuals and the team finishing
in 3rd place overall so well done to them all.
Show Jumper
of the Year Results On Saturday 15st May, four
members representing Armagh Riding Club travelled to Killyleagh Show to attempt qualifying for the Show Jumper of the Year.
Katie Crozier riding Apache Puzzle entered the Junior Novice and although she rode brilliantly, she was unfortunate to miss
the final 6 placing. Next was the Junior Open, which saw Aimee McKenna riding Splash going clear in the first round and progressing
to the speed. Here Aimee got all the tight turns at a very quick speed and therefore won the class ensuring her qualification
for the final in August. In the Horse Novice, Alison Crozier riding Tynan Wonder put in an excellent performance to be successful
to gain her qualification card. The last class of the day was the Senior Open. Lisa McKenna riding Sportsman
kept her cool against a strong field to end up winning the class and therefore progressing to the final. Congratulations to
all four girls on a very successful day. On Sunday 16th May, more than 15 members travelled to Balmoral for the second qualifier for the Show
Jumper of the Year. In the Junior Novice, eight members
took on the long and quite twisty course. They were Abbey Morton, Catherine Morton, Julie-Ann Garvey, Gavin Conlon, Claire
Conlon, Chloe Scott, Shannon Wright and Sarah McAnallen. All eight jumped fantastically which saw three of them in the final
places. Third place went to Abbey Morton riding Expresso, 5th was Shannon Hall and 6th to Chloe Scott. The
next class was the Junior Open. Here Wayne Elliot, Lauren McWilliams, Sarah McAnallen, Gavin Conlon and Claire Conlon all
put in great performances, which saw Claire Conlon and Wayne take on the speed course resulting in Wayne qualifying in 2nd
place and Claire putting in another fantastic round. In the Senior Novice, six members representing Armagh
entered this class. They were Ronnie Morton, Alison Crozier, David Conlon, Orlaith O’Hagan, Joanne Rickard and Alison
Parks. All six riders put in great performances resulting in Joanne Rickard riding Jonny Be Good and Alison Crozier riding
Tynan Wonder qualifying. As Alison had already qualified her place went to the next rider below her. The
last class was the Senior Open, which saw Tristan Hutton and Ronnie Morton represent Armagh. Here Ronnie Morton riding Mullintine
Mischief rode well to finish in 4th place making a grand total of eight members representing Armagh Riding Club qualify for
the final at Balmoral in August.
Congratulations to all members who took part providing Armagh
Riding Club with another extremely successful weekend and a very strong hand in the finals which can be strengthened even
more as there will be another two qualifiers for members who wish to give it a go. One at Mossvale and the other at Tyrella
